Access control with badge

Today, badge access control is one of the most common ways to combine high security with easy administration and keyless living. Residents, employees and guests get exactly the rights they need - and lost badges can be blocked in seconds.

At Keypartner, we help housing associations, companies, institutions and private individuals replace classic keys with electronic key fob systems. We ensure a solution that is reliable, user-friendly and scalable - from a few doors to entire properties.

Why choose access control with badge?

There's good reason why badge access control is a popular solution. Especially for housing associations, but also for private individuals, there are many advantages to the solution:

  • More security than keys: A lost token is blocked centrally; no costly rekeying of the locking system.
  • Flexibility and control: Rights per door, zone and time period; temporary guest access.
  • Full overview: Access log shows who, where and when.
  • Lower operational costs: Less key management; fast onboarding/offboarding.
  • Scalability: Start small and expand to more doors/buildings.

How does a token locking system work?

Although the technology behind a token locking system may seem advanced, in practice it is incredibly user-friendly. The user receives a small electronic token that works in the same way as an access card. When the token is held up in front of the reader at the door, the system determines if the person has access and the lock will only open if the token is approved.

Credential lifecycle:

  • Create user/role → issue tile → assign rights (doors/time zones)
  • Manage (change, extend, guest access)
  • Block on loss → replace and reissue

Online, offline and hybrid

  • Online - doors connected to central control; changes and locks are implemented instantly. Best for many doors/users
  • Offline - changes are rolled out at the door (via programming device/chip). Cheap to set up; requires physical update and manual log collection.
  • Hybrid - combine offline at secondary doors with online at main entrances for optimal economy and control.

Chip locking system as part of a larger security system

A token locking system doesn't have to stand alone. At Keypartner, we often help integrate token-based access control with other security solutions such as door automation, door phones or alarms. This way we can create a complete security system where everything works together and you have a full overview from one place.

The technology can also be combined with other forms of access. The chip can be supplemented with a PIN code for two-factor security or it can be combined with mobile access via an app.

In some cases, biometrics such as fingerprint or facial recognition can also be used with the chip. This makes the solution even more flexible and future-proof.

  • Change access conditions on an ongoing basis

Who benefits from badge access control?

A deadbolt locking system can be used in virtually any type of building. More and more people are finding it beneficial in private homes - and with good reason. But the solution is also ideal for:

  • Housing associations: Stairwells, basements, bike rooms and common areas. Lost tags are deactivated centrally and quickly replaced. Easier administration for the board/administrator.
  • Enterprises: Differentiated access levels (office, warehouse, server room). Onboarding/logout is done in minutes - no hunting for keys when employees leave.
  • Institutions and schools: Staff, suppliers and visitors get role-based rights. Event log overview and the option of time zones (e.g. opening hours).

Is badge access control more secure than keys?
How it works. A lost token is centrally blocked in seconds - instead of re-routing an entire locking system.
Online or offline tray system - what should we choose?
Many choose hybrid: online on main entrances for real-time control, offline on secondary doors to save establishment.
Can we get two-factor (chip + code)?
How to use. Combine chip + PIN or chip + mobile for higher security on particularly sensitive doors.
Who can see the access logs?
It is set as part of your entitlement model. Keep only necessary data and follow applicable regulations.

Save money and get more security

On average, only 10% of doors in Danish buildings are equipped with electronic access control today. This means that a full 90% of Danish doors still use regular keys*.

In particular, many workplaces use an electronic locking system. This creates great security by knowing who is in the company – and not least when. In addition, it is quick and easy to create, edit or delete in an access card system when employees change – or when, for example, new residents in the housing association or guests move out of hotels.

Electronic access control is the future

The future will show whether the technological developments taking place in the business world regarding the switch to electronic locking systems will also be transferred to private homes – and thus even out the balance between users of electronic access control systems and ordinary keys.

If you have a conventional mechanical locking system, you risk having to re-engineer the entire system if just one key goes missing. An access control system eliminates that problem.
