How thieves gain access to your home
A good place to start when you need to make your home burglar-proof Take a walk around your home with the eyes of a thief. Consider where the obvious points of entry to your home are. Then look at what measures you can take to deter thieves.
It is, of course, a good idea to secure all windows, but you can also choose to focus on the most vulnerable ones. These are usually windows at basement level, behind dense vegetation, or facing the garden.
In addition to ensuring that your windows meet the requirements for burglary resistance, you can also install additional security measures such as burglar alarms and security cameras. burglar alarm it is a good idea to consider how a burglar would force their way through a window.
A thief most often enters through a window by:
Remove the window by peeling off the exterior moldings
Drills out the window's wooden frame and removes the window
Break the window
Break and open the frame with a crowbar or other tool
It is a myth that it is not worth protecting yourself against burglars, because if they want to get in, they will. However, it is worth taking some extra precautions to make the burglar's job a little more difficult and hopefully discourage them from attempting a break-in.
If the burglar has the time and peace of mind to break into a household, there are very few things that can scare them away. High hedges, few neighbors in the immediate area, and a noisy area can, among other things, give the person time and peace of mind to break in.
However, there are effective measures that can scare the burglar away. One such measure is when neighbors discover the break-in. In the vast majority of cases, this will result in the burglar giving up and fleeing the property.
Another effective measure is burglar alarms. These are good to use as they have a preventive effect: the alarm stickers often mean that the thief will reconsider whether it is a good idea to break into the house, knowing that the alarm can reveal their presence.
If, on the other hand, the burglar is not detected and is not afraid of burglar alarms, KEYPARTNER recommends the following: Reinforce the windows so that it is not possible to break into the household through them.
How do you better secure your household windows?
Many windows in Danish households are not sufficiently secured. If windows are not secured, it is almost as easy for a thief to break them as it is to cut soft butter with a hot knife.
To keep burglars away, more is needed. Window locks or reinforced window bolts must be installed. Window bolts are often the first thing to be broken when a burglar breaks into a home.
With window locks and reinforced window bolts, your home is significantly better protected against burglary, as these window locks can withstand attempted break-ins with crowbars, hammers, metal drills, and screwdrivers. At the same time, they are tested to withstand pressure/pull of approx. 650 kg. Normal window hasps can be broken open with a screwdriver after 20 seconds of attempted break-in, whereas reinforced window hasps withstand over 11 minutes of attempted break-in. Those 11 minutes are the difference that can determine whether the thief gains access or has to give up.
Not only are window locks and reinforced window latches extremely effective, but the window lock also has a reflector mounted on the outside so that burglars can see that the home in question is burglar-proof. Securing windows is a solid defense against burglary.
How to secure the window:
