Residential Doorphone – You Decide Who Comes In

A doorphone only becomes interesting the day it stops working. Then the guest is left standing on the street, and the contractor calls on his cell phone instead. A residential doorphone takes care of the traffic at your front door: you can see who’s ringing the bell and let them in without having to go downstairs. We advise you on the system and install it. We also provide after-sales service.

What a residential doorphone should be able to do

The choice is less about the brand and more about how your home is built and who should be able to open the door on a daily basis. Three questions determine most of it.

Audio or video?

An audio system is less expensive to purchase and will provide reliable service for many years. Video systems cost more, but in return, you’ll know who’s outside before you press the open button. If you’d like to see this type of system, we’ve compiled a list of options for video door phones.

Wired or wireless?

In newer homes and in properties with intact wiring, a wired system is usually the obvious choice. Older properties are a different story, as new wiring can be the most expensive single item in the entire project. That’s why we often recommend a wireless model like WelcomeBob when there’s no existing wiring. We’ll make our recommendation once we’ve seen the door.

App and Remote Opening

A digital intercom system can forward the call to your phone so you can let the mail carrier in while you're at work. Learn more about how these systems work at digital intercom.

Residential Door Phones for Apartments and Cooperative Housing

If you live in a multi-unit building, your intercom unit is part of the building’s common system. Therefore, you can rarely change it on your own—the decision rests with the homeowners’ association or the property manager. We’re happy to handle that discussion, and the overall setup for apartment buildings consists of an intercom system connecting to individual apartments and, for building boards, an intercom system connecting to the homeowners’ association. If only your own intercom unit needs to be replaced or repaired, we’ll handle it as a single job.

Doorbell for single-family homes and townhouses

In a house, there’s only one door to worry about, and it has to work every time. Typically, we combine a video unit at the door with app access and an electronic door lock, so that communication and unlocking are integrated into a single solution. If you have a fence or gate, we install the intercom system at street level.

Residential door phone with access and locking features

A door phone rarely stands alone. It can be connected to a private access control system, so that access cards and codes are managed in one place, and it can work in conjunction with an automatic door opener if the door is to open on its own. We take responsibility for the entire system, so you don’t end up with three suppliers pointing fingers at each other.

Frequently Asked Questions About Residential Door Phones

How much does a residential doorphone cost?
The price depends on whether there are already cables in place and how many devices will be installed. We’ll inspect the door and provide a total price, so you won’t see any additional charges on your bill.
Can I replace the intercom in my apartment myself?
The unit in the apartment can be replaced separately, but the rest of the system belongs to the building. If the entire system needs to be modernized, the homeowners’ association must be involved in the decision—we’ll help bring it up at a board meeting.
Can the doorphone forward the call to my cell phone?
Yes, with a digital system. You can talk to the guest and open the door from home or remotely, depending on how the system is set up.
Do you need to run new cables in an older building?
Not necessarily. In older buildings, we often choose a wireless model precisely to avoid the expense of running cables through the stairwell.
What should I do if the system goes down?
Call the 24-hour hotline. If you live in a place where operations need to be predictable, we’ll set up a service agreement so that inspections and repairs are scheduled in advance.

Save money and get more security

On average, only 10% of doors in Danish buildings are equipped with electronic access control today. This means that a full 90% of Danish doors still use regular keys*.

In particular, many workplaces use an electronic locking system. This creates great security by knowing who is in the company – and not least when. In addition, it is quick and easy to create, edit or delete in an access card system when employees change – or when, for example, new residents in the housing association or guests move out of hotels.

Electronic access control is the future

The future will show whether the technological developments taking place in the business world regarding the switch to electronic locking systems will also be transferred to private homes – and thus even out the balance between users of electronic access control systems and ordinary keys.

If you have a conventional mechanical locking system, you risk having to re-engineer the entire system if just one key goes missing. An access control system eliminates that problem.

What is access control?

Access control systems help keep track of who can enter certain areas or use certain things. They work by using keys, key cards, codes, fingerprints or facial recognition to ensure that only those who have permission can gain access.

Electronic access control allows for many different types of access requirements such as:

  • Access control with card or tag: Use of tags with RFID and Mifare technology to grant access
  • Access control with code: Requires entering a PIN code for access.
  • Access control with two-factor authentication: Authentication using both RFID and Mifare technology tags and code
  • Access control with an app: Using smartphone apps to control access.
  • Biometric authentication access control: Allows access using fingerprint or facial recognition. However, we recommend one of the above solutions.

What are the benefits of access control?

A clear advantage of access control is that you can easily add or exclude users. This can be practical if a key is lost. With a normal locking system, it may be necessary to replace the entire system if a key is lost. Other advantages can be:

  • Improved security: Ability to restrict access to specific areas.
  • Flexibility in access rights: Easily add, change or remove access rights.
  • Access overview: Logging who enters and exits, and when.
  • Reduced risk of lost keys: Electronic forms of access eliminate the problem of lost keys and the security risks it entails, as it is easier to remove one access than to re-key all the locks.

What access control solutions are available?

With an offline electronic locking system, there is no communication cable between the door and the PC. Changes to the system must first be made on a PC, after which the changes must be implemented at each individual door via a key fob or programming device. In practice, this means that a caretaker or other expert must carry the information out to each individual door. The advantage of an offline system is that it is cheaper to establish than an online solution. On the other hand, there will be ongoing costs associated with getting the information out to the door and retrieving the log yourself. With an online electronic locking system, a communication cable goes out to each individual door, and everything is controlled centrally from a PC, mobile or other device. When the need arises for changes, these are made on the PC and are immediately communicated to the door. The advantage of this solution is that it is quick and easy to make changes to the system and to stay updated with log files from each individual door. The disadvantage of this solution is that the one-off costs are relatively high compared to offline access control.
