Doorphone for Your Cell Phone – Open the Door, No Matter Where You Are
The mail carrier always rings the doorbell when you're at work. With a doorphone that connects to your cell phone, calls from the front door go straight to your phone. You can see who's there, talk to them, and let them in with the touch of a button—from your couch or from the other side of town.
How a Mobile Doorphone Works
When someone presses the call button, the system forwards the call to an app on your phone instead of—or in addition to—a wall-mounted intercom. You’ll receive a notification, see the video feed, and can open the door through the app. The connection can be established in three ways, and the choice depends on the building:
Via SIM card and the cellular network
The system has its own SIM card and calls the resident's cell phone directly. It requires neither network cables nor an internet connection in the building, so it can be set up quickly. The signal at the door must be strong.
Via Wi-Fi
The system connects to the building's wireless network. It's suitable for homes and smaller properties with stable Wi-Fi all the way to the front door.
Via a wired network (IP)
An IP system operates on the building's network and can be integrated with access control and central management. This is the solution we most often recommend for larger properties. You can read more about these technologies on the digital doorphone page.
Doorphone for Cell Phones in Houses and Apartments
In a house, there’s only one door, and this is where a video intercom system with an app makes the biggest difference in everyday life. If you combine it with an electronic door lock, you can talk to visitors and unlock the door at the same time. Explore the options for residential video intercoms.
If you live in an apartment, the intercom is part of the building’s common facilities. The homeowners’ association must be involved, and we’re happy to help put this issue on the agenda. Read more at “Intercom for Apartments.”
Door Phones Connected to Cell Phones in Housing Associations and Businesses
For a housing association, this app solution means that name tags and keys for contractors may become unnecessary. Residents can grant temporary access to guests, and the administrator manages access from a browser. WelcomeBob is an example of a wireless solution that connects via Wi-Fi or the cellular network and is controlled from an app—without cables to each apartment. In commercial properties, calls can be routed to the front desk or forwarded to the employee on duty.
Things to Consider Before Making Your Choice
A doorphone that connects to a cell phone depends on the connection. We measure the signal at the door before recommending a wireless solution, so you don’t end up with a system that cuts out when it rains. Also ask about the subscription: some app-based solutions have a recurring fee, and that needs to be factored into the cost. If the doorphone needs to work with access cards and codes, it can be connected to an access control system.
Can your old system be upgraded to mobile?
Some systems can be upgraded with a module that forwards calls to the phone. Others are too old, in which case a new system is the most reliable solution. We’ll take a look at your current doorphone and give you an honest assessment of what’s possible. If you decide to get a new one, our own technicians will install the system and set up the app with you so it works from day one. Read more about the doorphone installation process in Copenhagen.
