Doorbell price – how much does a doorbell cost?

The most expensive part of a new doorphone system is rarely the system itself. It’s the cables—or the lack thereof. That’s why two buildings with the same number of apartments can receive vastly different quotes, and why a doorphone price quote without an on-site inspection provides only a rough estimate. Below, you can see what factors drive the price up and down, so you can evaluate a quote with a clear understanding.

What Determines the Price of Your Doorphone?

Wired or wireless

In newer buildings, the cables are already in place, so the job is mostly a matter of replacing the devices. In older buildings, running new cables through the stairwell can be the most expensive part of the entire project. In these cases, we always consider a wireless solution like WelcomeBob as an alternative, because it connects via Wi-Fi or the cellular network and eliminates the need for cable installation.

Audio or Video

An audio system is the least expensive option and will last for many years. Video systems cost more per unit, but you can see who you’re letting in. If video is the right choice for you, consider a video doorbell.

Number of apartments and stairwells

Each apartment must have a response unit or a slot in the app, and each entrance must have a call panel. The price per apartment typically decreases as the number of apartments increases, because the call panel and setup are shared.

Brand and Design

We work with Scantron, Siedle, Videx, and WelcomeBob. Siedle is at the high end of the market and comes with a 5-year warranty. Videx is available in both analog and digital versions, so you can choose the level that best suits your needs.

Complete replacement or partial upgrade?

Not all systems need to be completely replaced. If the control panel and cables are in working order, it may be enough to upgrade the response units or add video at the entrance. On the other hand, a partial solution can end up being expensive if half the system is old and breaks down shortly afterward. We show both options with pricing so you can see what you’re getting for your money in the short and long term.

That's what should be included in a quote for an intercom system

A quote should specify exactly what’s included. If the cable work isn’t described, that’s typically where the extra charges come in. Also check whether the installation of nameplates and removal of the old system are included, and whether a subscription is included with the app solution. Our quote describes all the work and highlights anything that requires clarification, so there are no surprises later on.

Doorphone Prices for Housing Associations

For a board of directors, the purchase price is only half the equation. Operations over the next ten years are just as important: who manages resident information when residents move out, and what does it cost when a unit breaks down? We factor both of these into our quote. Read more about the process for intercom systems for housing associations and about fixed-term service agreements.

How to Get a Fixed Price

We’ll inspect the door and the stairwell and ask who needs to be able to open it. Then you’ll receive two recommended solutions, including pricing and a timeline, and we’ll clearly let you know if anything needs to be clarified before the price can be finalized. We’ll tell it like it is—before it gets expensive. If the door intercom needs to be integrated with access cards or codes, we can also look into access control solutions.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Price of a Doorphone

Why is there such a big difference in prices?
Because the details of the wiring work are rarely described in the same way. Always ask whether cable installation, setup, and removal of the old system are included in the price.
Is a wireless doorphone cheaper?
This is often the case in older buildings, because the wiring is no longer in use. In a building with intact wiring, however, a wired system is often the cheapest option.
Can we just replace the response units?
That might be possible if the existing system is still in production and spare parts are available. We'll check that during the inspection.
How much does it cost to operate a doorphone?
A wired system costs virtually nothing to operate on an ongoing basis, aside from maintenance. Wireless and app-based solutions may require a subscription—we always specify this in our quote.
