Doorbell with door opener—unlock the door with a single press

A doorphone without a door opener is a conversation through a door that you still have to go down and open yourself. With a doorphone that includes a door opener, you press a button and the door unlocks. We install the system and the door opener as a single, integrated solution, so you don’t end up with two suppliers pointing fingers at each other when the door won’t open.

How a Doorphone with a Door Opener Works

In a doorphone with a door opener, it’s the open button that makes all the difference. When you press it on the handset or in the app, the system sends an electrical signal to the door. The door opener in the door frame or lock releases the door for a few seconds so the visitor can push it open. Afterward, it locks again automatically.

Electrical Termination Plate

The most common solution. The strike plate is mounted in the door frame and releases the latch when power is applied. It is a simple solution for most front doors and entryway doors.

Engine Lock

The entire locking mechanism is located inside the door and is powered by a motor. This provides greater security because the door is locked with a latch and not just with the bolt.

Which door opener is right for you depends on the door, the door frame, and your insurance company's requirements. We'll assess this during the on-site inspection.

Doorphone with door opener for apartment buildings and multi-story buildings

In a stairwell, the door opener must be able to withstand the door being opened many times a day. At the same time, the door must close properly again; otherwise, the stairwell will remain open. That’s why we often pair the door opener with a door closer from Dørautomatik, where we use Ruko and Dorma. Doorbell with door opener for single-family homes and townhouses

In a house, the door opener can also be installed in a gate or door out by the road. That way, you can speak with the visitor from inside the house and open the gate at the property line. With an app-based system, you can open the gate even when you’re not home. Learn more about video door phones for cell phones and residential video door phones.

More than just a doorphone with a door opener

The door opener is where the intercom meets the lock. If residents or employees also need to be able to unlock the door using a key fob or code, the same door opener can be controlled by an access control system. We take care of everything so you can avoid any loose ends. Our installers have completed a four-year locksmith training program and are familiar with both the electronics and the mechanics of the door.

How to Install a Doorphone with a Door Opener

We start at the door. The door frame and the existing lock determine whether a door closer can be installed directly or if the lock needs to be replaced. Next, we run the connection from the door phone to the door opener and set how long the door should remain open after a button press. Finally, we’ll test the entire system with you, from the call button to the open door. If you’re unsure about what your door can handle, we’ll start with a no-obligation consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Door Phones with Door Openers

Can I add a door opener to my existing door phone?
Often, yes, if the system has an output for a door opener. We'll check that during the inspection.
What happens during a power outage?
It depends on the door opener. Some lock during a power outage, while others open. We choose based on what the door needs to be able to do—for example, for emergency exits.
Is a door opener approved by the insurance company?
It depends on the type of policy and your insurance company's requirements. We'll go over the requirements with you before we choose a solution.
How long does the door stay open after it's pressed?
We configure that during installation. In a stairwell with strollers and bicycles, it typically takes a little longer than at the front door of a house.
Can the door be kept open during the day?
Yes, multiple door openers can be set to "day mode," in which the door remains unlocked for a specific period of time.
