4 out of 10 burglaries are not investigated in Copenhagen
In many cases, Copenhagen residents who have been victims of burglary must accept that their cases will be closed by the police without investigation. Burglaries at commercial enterprises in particular are given low priority by the Copenhagen Police.
In Denmark, almost 30% of all reported burglaries in private homes and businesses were closed in 2018 without being investigated, writes The Jyllands-Posten.
A case is registered as investigated once an examination of the crime scene has been carried out. The examination involves collecting evidence, DNA, fingerprints, break-in marks, and anything else that may be useful in the case.

However, in several thousand cases, many are not investigated. Figures from the Director of Public Prosecutions, to which Jyllands-Posten has had access, show that a good 16,046 reports were dismissed last year. However, Copenhagen is above the national average, as 40 out of 100 burglaries are dismissed without investigation by the Copenhagen police. The reason for the many dismissals is a lack of resources in the police force. To The Jyllands-Posten says Claus Oxfeldt, Chairman of the Police Federation: "We set aside cases that could be solved if we had the resources to do so.".Burglary in businesses is being downgraded
The above figures cover burglaries in private homes and businesses.
